A valley set in the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix has the vibrant downtown typical of a city. But a quick look beyond the horizon will remind you that this city is anything but typical.

Desert Botanical Garden

Wander the outdoor trails of the botanical garden, which is home to more than 50,000 plants.

Special events run throughout the year, including art installations (above) and Sonoran Sippin’, a family-friendly event with live music going on this summer.

Desert Off-Road Tour

The more thrill-seeking travelers can hit the desert for a daytime or sunset off-road tour. Hop in a guide-led Hummer or UTV, or drive your own ATV. A guide steers each group through flat desert trails—oh, and seasonal creeks, sandy hills and rocky slopes.
