How To Care For Your Concrete Candles: 7 Expert Tips

In case you haven’t heard, we launched a collection of Concrete Candles, featuring the same distinctive aromas as our Expressive fragrances.
They’re exclusively available for Commodity.Circle members, our free rewards program. (Not a member? Sign up here.)
To make the most of this launch, we’re sharing our top candle care tips. Whether you’re lighting your new Commodity luxury candle or another longtime favorite, these tips will help you enjoy your candle even longer.
1. Burn evenly on first use.
Let the wax melt evenly across the entire surface during the first burn. This can take up to 4 hours depending on the candle’s size, but sets the stage for a clean, even burn every time. This step helps prevent tunneling, which is when a candle burns down the middle, and enhances the fragrance throw.
2. Trim the wick before each use.
Keep the candle wick trimmed to about 1/4” before lighting. This prevents uneven burning, minimizes soot, and ensures a safer, more controlled flame.
3. Use a candle warmer for an alternative experience.
For a flameless option, use a candle warmer to release the fragrance. If you prefer a flame, ignite your candle safely using a lighter or match.
4. Extinguish with a snuffer, not a breath.
As opposed to blowing out your candle, a snuffer limits excess smoke and prevents hot wax from splashing.
5. Practice safe burning habits.
Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of children or pets. Always practice safe candle burning by using a stable, heat-resistant surface and keeping it away from flammable materials.
6. When not in use, keep in a cool, dry place.
A cabinet or drawer will shield your scented candle from direct sunlight, helping to prevent the scent from fading and the dust from collecting.
7. Stop use when there is less than 1/4” of wax left.
Once your candle has reached its final burn, give the Commodity concrete vessel a second life. Place it in the freezer overnight to loosen the remaining wax, then carefully pop it out with a knife. You can then repurpose the vessel as a piece of modern home décor.
